Dahlonega Georgia

We have spent this past week at the Etowah River Campgrounds in Dahlonega Georgia. The area is in the mountains of Georgia and the views are amazing. Dahlonega is the site of the first American Gold Rush in the 1800's and the main square hosts the Gold Mine Museum, the building is the oldest Courthouse in Georgia and has been maintained by the historic society. This is true small town Americana, the people are friendly and the shops and restaurants are wonderful. However, after the sun goes down, you can hear the Banjo's..and Deliverance seems a reality not a movie..On each Saturday between May and November, the town square hosts an Appalachian Jam Fest, musicians gather and play for the fun and entertainment of anyone who cares to gather. We also went Gold and Gem hunting at Crissons Gold Mine. We found some Gold, which was really cool and actually found gems, I am the proud owner of a Garnet ring, Amythest ring and a Sapphire pendant, which are being set by Mountain View Gems. This is also a great stop along the road. We met some great people and over this past weekend met a young couple from Boca Rotan. Brad and Hannah, they were tenting along the river and just enjoying themselves and the area. Tomorrow morning we are on the road again, heading to Gaffney SC and another adventure.
From the road
